For our first day trip we are off to Deniliquin where we will visit the newly established Muster Museum showcasing the 23 years of the Deniliquin Ute Muster Festival. Following morning tea, we return to the Deniliquin township to visit "The Depot", a museum where history is brought to life through a unique collection of historical vehicles and memorabilia, with an unforgettable 'wow' factor when you walk through the door. Step back into the 50's as you lunch at the Cruizin Diner a booth style diner with neon signs, 50's tunes and an extensive menu of burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes and more. After lunch we travel to Restdown Wines, a certified organic winery, farm and Aboriginal wetland. Here you can enjoy a leisurely walk around the Wetlands where you will see Aboriginal scar trees, cooking hearths and more before partaking in a tasting of the organic wines produced at Restdown.
morning tea supplied / products available to buyThis morning we visit the Piccoli’s family farm. John Piccoli, affectionately known as the “Spanner Man” has been in a wheelchair since he was 8 years old. Despite this he has designed, created and erected world class sculptures all made from open-ended spanners. Simply amazing workmanship, after a short video we will venture around the gardens for closer inspection of the modern art, and inspect the shed where it was all created!
morning tea supplied / products available to buy
We'll venture into Wedderburn for lunch, before we reconvene at the Coach house Museum for a step back in time to a general goods store, closed in the late 60's - it's all still there to see, preserved in it's 60's state including cellars, blacksmith forge and more.! We'll then head to the Eucalyptus Distillery to see how eucalyptus oil is made, before sampling and an opportunity to buy the local oil.A shear experience not to forget, we’re off to Hay to visit "Shear Outback"-an award-winning innovative and exciting interpretative centre devoted to these colourful characters of the bush and follows the technology of ‘getting the wool’ off, – past, present, and future. First we wander down to the shearing shed for a live shearing demonstration and informative talk on the history of shearing, then roam around the centre to see, feel AND smell shearing!. Following lunch in town, we pick up our tour guide and get a guided town tour, a true local's perspective, who will also take us to the Bishops Lodge & Rose Garden- a unique iron building designed to combat the harsh climate of the western Riverina and provide a practical and elegant home for the family of the first Anglican Bishop of Riverina, Sydney Linton, in 1888. We then head off to the old Hay Goal a heritage-listed former prison and a quick stop at the Dunera Musuem at the old train station, a tribute to the internee's from WWII. Its been a big day today, so on our way home we’ll stop for dinner at the Pretty Pine Hotel.
Products to Buy - Long DayThis morning we head for Echuca to pick up our local guide to learn how Echuca Moama was developed from just a river crossing on the Long Paddock run. Now for something different! The Great Aussie Beer Shed & Heritage Farm Museum. The Museum is one of the most interesting and unique tourist attractions in Victoria with something for everyone to enjoy. You can explore all the Aussie Icon paraphernalia after a talk from our enthusiastic host, and we'll have some lunch there before we head off to visit Shepo's Whey - a dairy farm with a twist. Mick and his family will show us around the dairy and sculpture farm, and maybe have an extra surprise after afternoon tea. Quickly back to Barham for dinner before we head into Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement to view their best attraction “Heartbeat of the Murray”. This is a 360-degree multi-media display that will totally immerse you in the Murray River story.
